ANNOUNCEMENTS

Volunteers Needed! Do you have time on Wednesday evenings to help those less fortunate? Just one Wednesday once a month would be a tremendous help!

If you can help, the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Gerard meets on Wednesday’s at 1213 Clark (just around the corner from the church) from about 6:00pm to about 8:00pm when groceries are bagged and delivered to those in need. The deliveries are made with a minimum of two adults and are all within the St. Gerard area. If you would like more information, please call 853-8132 or just come on a Wednesday at 6:00pm.

Ministry Opportunity: Every Sunday 10 nursing homes and 15 residences receive a visit from a St. Gerard Minister of Communion to the sick. We share a Scripture Reading and Holy Communion with a parishioner who is not able to join us at Sunday Liturgy. There currently are openings for substitute "Sunday Visitors". If you want to learn more, please call the Parish Office and leave your name, 323-2379.

KIDS HOPE USA: St. Gerard has partnered with Waverly’s Colt Elementary School to provide mentors. Volunteers are needed for the new school year in the fall. Tools and training will be given to you to become a successful mentor. You can be the one that makes a difference in the life of a child with the commitment of just one hour a week. If you are interested in being a mentor, substitute mentor, or prayer partner, please call Marilyn Fox Wade at 321-7136.

"Invite Someone to Attend Church With You This Sunday"

Welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. For Christ’s life of service was to show that God is faithful to God’s promises, and to enable all to praise God for God’s mercy. May God, the source of hope, fill you with joy and peace by means of your faith, so that your hope may continue to grow by the power of the Holy Spirit." (Romans 15:7-13)

Stewardship
Our goal at St. Gerard Parish is to develop, foster, sustain, the spirituality, understanding and practice of stewardship. Stewardship is an attitude, not a department. It consists of each baptized Catholic becoming a good steward of their time, talent and treasure.

You who always fulfilled God's will on earth, help me to do God's holy will. Intercede with the Giver of life, from whom all parenthood proceeds, that I may conceive and raise ...

From the Bishop
One of the joys and challenges of our time is to use technology and innovation to spread the message of Jesus. With that in mind, the diocesan Web site www.dioceseoflansing.org began two years ago. We have recently completed an upgrading of that site. One of the benefits of that upgrade is ...

Catholicism - What does Catholicism have to offer?

Instant access to people and information all over the world.

These are all things which, with our easy access to the Internet, we take for granted.
They are also almost entirely unavailable in Africa.

Hidden beneath the physical poverty in Africa evident from newspaper, radio, and television coverage throughout the world, there is another severe poverty: a poverty of information and communication. This poverty pervades every aspect of life, from education, to medicine, to agriculture, to the development of communities.

In order for Africa to solve its internal problems and claim full membership in the international community, this poverty must be stopped. African communities must gain access to the information readily available in more developed parts of the world, and they must be able to communicate with each other and with the world community. The best, quickest, and easiest way to do this is to bring the Internet to Africa.
